In this quick step-by-step tutorial, we show you how to set a daily time limit for the unproductive websites you or your child visit the most on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.<\/p>\n

If your child spends a lot of time playing mobile games, checking Instagram, or watching Netflix, you can set a daily time limit for those apps.<\/p>\n

In case your child does the same on other websites, such as social media, you can lock those sites after a daily time limit. After the given time, that particular website will not be accessible until midnight (when the limit is reset).<\/p>\n

Setting time limits for websites makes sense if you don’t want to block them completely (like you might with adult sites on a child’s device) but rather want to encourage moderate daily use.<\/p>\n

Set a daily time limit for non-productive websites on iPhone, iPad, or Mac<\/h2>\n

1)<\/strong> Open iOS Settings app<\/strong> on your child’s iPhone or iPad or System Settings<\/strong> on their Mac and choose Screen Time<\/strong>. We use an iPhone to demo the process.<\/em><\/p>\n

If your child has been added to your Apple digital family, you can follow these steps on your device and select your child’s name below The family<\/em> part.<\/p>\n

2)<\/strong> Make sure the Screen Time passcode is set. Once there, you’ll see \u201cChange Screen Time Passcode\u201d instead of \u201cScreen Time Settings.\u201d<\/p>\n

3)<\/strong> Tap Application limitations<\/strong>followed by Add Limit<\/strong>. Then, enter the Screen Time passcode when prompted.<\/p>\n

\"Tap\"Tap<\/p>\n

4)<\/strong> Scroll through the application categories and tap Websites<\/strong> from the ground up. You may see some recently accessed websites here. If they are the ones you want to limit, select one or more and press The next one<\/strong>. If the site is not listed, tap it Add a Website<\/strong>enter the website URL (like samsung.com<\/em><\/strong>), and press The next one<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5)<\/strong> Use the hour and minute sliders to set the time limit. You can tap again Schedule Dates<\/em> to set a custom daily limit for specific days. Then, be sure Block at the End of the Limit<\/strong> is open, then tap the check mark icon.<\/p>\n

6)<\/strong> Finally, I would advise you to force close all open applications (Settings, Safari, Chrome, etc.) or restart the device. Without a hard shutdown and restart, the new restrictions may not take effect immediately.<\/p>\n

The website is now time limited. If your child has spent hours or minutes on a website, they will be banned for the rest of the day. A child can click Ask for More Time<\/strong> and use the website for one more minute. But if they want to use it beyond that grace period, they’ll have to ask for your permission (which you can allow or deny) or enter a Screen Time passcode, which I hope you haven’t shared with them yet.<\/p>\n

If you set a restriction on your child’s iPhone or iPad, that website is blocked not only in Apple’s Safari browser, but also in Google Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers, including in-app browsers (like the one in the X app).<\/p>\n

However, on Mac, the website is blocked only<\/strong> in Safari. The restricted website can be accessed at the same time in Chrome, Firefox, etc.<\/p>\n

Change the website time limit or remove it<\/h2>\n

You can increase or decrease the daily time limit for the website or remove it completely.<\/p>\n

  1. Return to Screen Time Settings<\/strong> and press Application limitations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Tap More website restriction and enter the Screen Time passcode.<\/li>\n
  3. use the Time<\/strong> field to change it. Shut up Block at the End of the Limit<\/strong> maintaining the daily limit, without restricting access when the limit is over. Or, tap Remove Limit<\/strong> to remove it completely.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
