This enables a level of spatial intelligence rarely seen in many consumer sensors, including:

Real time calculation

Location tracking within defined areas

Positional recognition

Movement-based concepts such as sitting time and work patterns

The sensor is also supported a well-organized map of the areaallowing users to divide the room into smaller areas for more accurate automation. Lighting or scenes can be triggered based on where a person is in the room, rather than just the occupancy of the room.

When properly installed, the FP400 is capable fall detectionalongside the vigilance of many people. Aqara also includes excluded areas, which helps reduce false positives in areas where detection is not required. This sets the device not only for smart home automation, but also for use in situations such as assisted living or more advanced residential monitoring.

The FP400 is designed to cover larger areas than conventional presence sensors, with a coverage area of up to 10 x 8 m. Flexible mounting options allow it to be mounted on walls or ceilings, depending on the required coverage and use case, including features such as fall detection. Design wise the FP400 takes its cues from the FP2, with a built-in USB cable for power and built-in and attached brackets, instead of batteries.

From a connectivity perspective, the FP400 supports both Series again Get rid of themwhich provides flexibility depending on the setup. As a Matter-enabled device, it can integrate with large smart home platforms with the Matter controller. However, the performance varies depending on how it is connected:

Matter over Thread: featured primarily as a presence and light sensor

Zigbee through the Aqara hub: enables a full range of location tracking features and advanced analytics

This difference reflects the current limitations within the Matter standard, where more advanced sensor data types are not yet widely supported, and is similar to the company’s FP300, which offers similar alternatives.

Like the FP300, in addition to its location tracking capabilities, the FP400 includes a built-in light sensor, which allows for automatic capture of both occupancy and ambient light. Temperature and humidity sensors are not included, unlike the FP300, however.

With its combination of location awareness, posture detection, and environmental data, the FP400 is designed to enable more context-aware automation, going beyond motion-based triggers. The FP400 represents a step forward in presence sensing, from basic occupancy detection and general presence detection, to detailed location intelligence. While Matter support ensures compatibility with platforms like Apple Home, many of the most advanced features are still connected to Aqara’s ecosystem through the Hub.

There doesn’t seem to be a set price yet, though it’s expected to be comparable to the company’s FP2.

Aqara has revealed i Spatial Multi-Sensor FP400 with it EU storea high-level presence sensor built upon the company mmWave systemhe added detailed spatial awareness, tracking multiple peopleagain The relevance of the story with comprehensive smart home integration.
