The new Airversa QliQ caught my eye right away because it addresses two of my biggest complaints about most smart switches: it uses a Thread connection instead of Bluetooth, and it takes out disposable batteries for recharging. Let’s take a closer look at what it brings to the table and see if its premium hardware features justify the purchase.

HomeKit Weekly is a series focused on smart home gadgets, automation tips and tricks, and everything related to Apple’s smart home framework.

At its core, the Airversa QliQ is a 3-button controller that lets you trigger up to 9 automations with a single, double, and remote press. That gives you a lot of flexibility to start a simple lighting change or a complex morning scene that opens the curtains, turns on the lights, and starts playing Music. However, the connectivity and accessibility features surrounding those buttons are what make this device worth the cost.

Technical details

Battery and Power: The Airversa QliQ has a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts for two months on a single charge. It has a USB-C port at the bottom, and a red LED indicator shows when the battery is empty.

Communication: It works on Thread. You’ll need a series-enabled Apple Home hub, such as an Apple TV or HomePod mini.

Design and usability: The 3-button design offers single-click, double-click, and long-press actions. The Airversa QliQ also has built-in tactile and audible feedback. Each press gives you a small vibration and a beep, which is a very handy feature.

Disconnect: It includes a magnetic wall plate that allows you to shoot the Airversa QliQ directly in any magnetic field.

How do you enter?

Since this button uses HomeKit over a chain, setup is incredibly straightforward and quick. You don’t need to download a third-party app or create a new account to run it. You simply scan the HomeKit code directly into the Apple Home app, assign it a room, and start programming the buttons. Airversa offers an app for customizing features, such as disabling the beep or vibrate, but these are completely optional for essential functionality.

Use case ideas

Having nine different triggers on one remote opens up a lot of possibilities for the Apple Home. You can attach a magnetic plate near your front door and use a long press on the top button to trigger your Come Home scene, turn on the driveway lights and set the temperature.

I like to use these for special environmental control. I can easily assign a button in the center to activate the reading zone, dim the lights around my seat when I finally sit down to read a book (for now). You can also keep it on your nightstand to trigger a Bedtime scene that locks the doors, turns on your alarm system, turns off all the lights in the house, and lowers the thermostat.

Complete Airversa QliQ

In my experience over the last few weeks, the Airversa QliQ justifies its place as an Apple Home remote. Ditching the disposable batteries for the USB-C reset is great, and the Thread connection means your defaults are super fast. I really like the feedback/vibration on the button too.

You can buy Airversa QliQ in 1 or 2 packs directly from Amazon.

FTC: We use auto affiliate links to earn income. More.

Smart buttons have become more common in the Apple Home ecosystem, but finding one that checks every box is still an incredible challenge at times.
