The company has long been working on a new standalone Siri app to improve the way users interact with Siri and Apple Intelligence – and it should be released in beta next month.

According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new Siri app will come with a privacy feature similar to iMessage: automatically deleting conversations. He also expects Siri to launch with a beta label even if it becomes publicly available in the fall, similar to other previous Apple releases.

A new Siri app that automatically deletes conversations

Despite being hesitant at first to introduce a Siri chatbot, it sounds like Apple will be doing just that with iOS 27. There will be a new standalone Siri app with chat history, the ability to start new conversations or voice conversations, and upload files to Siri. You’ll also have a new universal touch to enter a new Siri conversation.

Of course, this all depends on Siri being good — which I hope it is with Apple’s deal with Google to use Gemini models to power Siri.

One of the key points with the new Apple Siri update is privacy. The company will run Gemini-based Siri on its own private cloud computing servers, rather than handing over all your data directly to Google. Some details are still unclear, but even so, Google shouldn’t use your Siri conversations as model training.

Another privacy win with the new Siri app will be to automatically delete chat history. In the Messages app, you can set your chat history to automatically delete after 30 days or a year, or leave it forever. The same options will be available in the new Siri app, by Bloomberg.

Finally, the new Siri app will have two interaction options: you can open a new chat view (like ChatGPT), or open a message-style chat list.

Siri will come with a beta label

New features introduced with the beta label are nothing new for Apple. Even when Apple Intelligence first rolled out in iOS 18, it was labeled beta — and that’s expected to continue with the new Siri in iOS 27. From the report:

Test versions of iOS 27 within Apple apply this label to the new Siri and include a change to leave Siri beta. Given that we’re only a month away from WWDC, there’s a strong possibility that this approach will be implemented in developer beta versions even when iOS 27 ships this fall. All of this means that, even after a two-year delay (the updated Siri was supposed to arrive in 2024), the company can still introduce new features as unfinished.

And it sounds like the company will allow users to opt out of the new Siri beta. It is not clear whether this rollout will be separate from the existing Apple Intelligence rollout, or will be a level above that. As a sidebar, I wish Apple had more releases of the Apple Intelligence feature instead of an all-encompassing switch.

Are you excited for the new Siri debuting next month?
