Developer betas for all six operating systems are available now, with a public beta expected in July and a general release in September.

Liquid Glass has received a series of improvements in response to user feedback, with Apple updating the basics of how the reflective design language is constructed to deliver consistent repeatability and improved contrast. A new system width slider allows users to dial in transparency anywhere from completely clear to fully compressed. The app icons also get a sharper definition with more layers. macOS Golden Gate gets the same Liquid Glass fix with special attention to transparency and shadow issues that are more pronounced on the Mac.

A significant portion of the keynote is dedicated to performance improvements across platforms. iPhone and iPad apps launch up to 30% faster, new photos appear in iCloud Photos up to 70% faster after capture, AirDropped photos are transferred up to 80% faster, and file transfers in Files are up to 50% faster. The redesigned CPU processor reportedly makes older iPhones feel more responsive, and iOS 27 supports every iPhone compatible with iOS 26, going back to iPhone 11.

The search index has been rebuilt to be more stable and comprehensive, with new content indexed almost instantly and a new ranking system in Mail to show the most relevant results. iCloud Shared Albums also gets support for contributions from Android and Windows users.

Apple announced an expanded set of parental controls and tools for Screen Time, giving parents greater ability to monitor and approve what children do on the device and within apps, with changes the company said were based on expert research.

The centerpiece of the keynote was Siri AI, a fundamental redesign of Apple’s personal assistant built on new Foundation Models developed in collaboration with Google using Gemini technology. Apple described the result as a very powerful assistant that supports natural back-and-forth conversation, understanding the personal context of all content on the device, on-screen awareness, image understanding, and global knowledge through web access.

Siri now has a dedicated app for browsing and continuing conversations, which syncs across devices via iCloud. On iPhone, Siri is embedded in Dynamic Island and on Mac it lives inside Spotlight. A new customizable voice model is available in the settings. Siri AI extends to CarPlay and AirPods as well.

Visual Intelligence has been rolled into a dedicated Siri mode in the Camera app, with new capabilities including nutritional information from a photo of a meal and bill breakdown from a receipt snapshot. Siri can now type any available text input, generate first drafts with natural language explanations, provide feedback on existing writing, and Apple Intelligence adds an entire auto-reading system.

Apple said Siri AI uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, with cloud processing on Apple’s servers using Google’s infrastructure, but managed in such a way that the data remains inaccessible to Apple or third parties. Siri AI is free, with features such as image generation that handle the limits of daily use and extended access available with multiple iCloud+ plans.

Users must join a waiting list to access the new Siri. Siri AI will not be available in the EU or China at launch and is only presented in English.

Safari gains tab grouping, with Apple Intelligence that analyzes pages and organizes open tabs without manual intervention, and a new web page monitoring feature that notifies users when a page is updated. Safari will also allow users to describe what they want the browser extension to do in natural language, where Apple Intelligence generates one accordingly, and can automatically change broken passwords, updating them in the password app.

Shortcuts get natural language creation, so users can define workflows and have Apple Intelligence automatically build them. Messages and Mail both get one-tap contextual suggestions for actions like creating a reminder or adding a photo. Calendar adds natural language event creation and can automatically update recurring events when their pattern changes.

Photos get an Enhanced Cleanup tool with more realistic fills, a new Stretch tool that adds breathing space around photos or corrects a crooked horizon without cropping, and Reframe, which uses on-device time models to adjust the view. Image Playground is updated with a new generation model capable of rendering realistic images, support for editing existing images, and the ability to rotate specific areas for target changes.

The Home app now integrates notifications to reduce noise, and uses Apple Intelligence to create snapshots of recorded video, linking content from multiple cameras together. Maps Flyover has been updated with more detail, including aerial photos and visual intelligence models.

CarPlay gains new features including video app support, AirPods gains custom EQ settings, Apple Vision Pro gains the ability to convert panorama images into spatial scenes, and the Health app adds menopause and period tracking. watchOS 27 brings a dynamic app grid, new touch controls, and the Siri app to the Apple Watch.

Developer betas for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 are available now, with a public beta to follow in July. All updates are expected to be released to the public in September along with the new iPhone model.
