With the Momentum 5 Wireless, Sennheiser continues to build on that reputation with a headphone designed for listeners who want comfort, cutting-edge features, and sound that goes beyond traditional consumer Bluetooth options.

At this point, the noise-cancelling headphone market is full of powerful choices, so the new Momentum model should do more than just carry the Sennheiser name. Let’s take a closer look at the Momentum 5’s design, features, battery life, and sound to see how it stacks up.

What You Get

One MOMENTUM 5 wireless headphones

One charging case

One USB-C charging cable

Audio cable with 3.5mm and 2.5mm jacks

Documents

See & Feel

The Momentum 4 has a great design for a consumer Bluetooth headphone, so the Momentum 5 doesn’t change that much. There is a slight difference though. For example, the black version looks like it has a nice sheen, similar to the graphite variant of the Momentum 4. This shine makes the Momentum 5 look really pop. Add in a medallion-style logo plate on the headband, and the Momentum has never looked closer to luxury. In terms of comfort, the Momentum 5 is almost identical to the Momentum 4. Their ear cups and cushions feel the same, and I had no problem wearing the Momentum 5 for the number of hours I put them through.

Design and performance

Inside the Momentum 5 is a 42mm flexible speaker that’s strong, but the comfortable, efficient volume level leaves a small amount of headroom. Thankfully, powerful noise cancellation helps combat this, providing a limited amount of interference that comes between you and your music.

The Smart Control Plus app lets you customize how strong the ANC is, including full transparent volume control. You get a slider that, when adjusted to 100% ANC, reveals just how strong Sennheiser’s noise cancellation technology is. A simple silencer switch is also present to give you a basic, simple solution to external noise. The app separates these features very clearly, and the experience is very smooth and customizable. The touch controls are customizable, and in terms of responsiveness, the Momentum 5 is the best yet. Sliding your finger up and down to control volume feels natural, and the action is registered with precision. The Momentum 5 also adds a wearable sensor that is also responsive such as touch play and pause.

Bluetooth

The Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless features Bluetooth 5.4 for a stable, modern wireless connection that supports high-quality codecs including SBC, AAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, and aptX Lossless. It also supports Snapdragon Sound, helping to deliver enhanced wireless audio performance with compatible devices. The pairing process is free, connecting quickly to both your device and the Smart Control Plus app.

Battery Life

You might see the Momentum 5’s 57-hour battery life and be confused. Why does the new version of Sennheiser Momentum give you fewer hours than previous versions? Reason proves this, as the Momentum 5’s battery life is 57 hours whether you use ANC or not. With most Bluetooth headphones, charging varies depending on the features used, and ANC is a big culprit in what drains your battery. With the Momentum 5, you get a flat 57 hours of playback time, which is a first for a mainstream consumer headphone.

Sound stage

Sennheiser’s Momentum series always has a wide, natural sound compared to its consumer-level competition, such as the Sony 1000x series, Bose, and Apple AirPods Max. Momentum maintains that tradition, with accurate location imaging and tool clarity apart. Everything feels like it sits in the right place, which is no sweat for Sennheiser headphones, Bluetooth or not.

The Momentum 5 is very simple with channel separation and spatial identity, sticking to a clear stereo space that sounds just right. It’s an emotional presentation that leans a little on the indirect, but still sticks to a concise and clear outline. If you turn on Immersive Audio in the Smart Control app, the effect will not significantly interfere with the natural characteristics of the sound stage. Using Dolby Atmos with the Momentum 5 pushes the sound out a bit, adding more headspace for height and dimension. However, it reduces the impact, and the soundstage becomes a little foggy as a result. I like this feature for surround tracks, but if you like to hear notes from portable instruments, stick to the default stereo mode.

The Low End

Momentum series headphones have never lacked for bass impact, and the Momentum 5 is no different. Is it better than Momentum 4? I would say so, but now the Momentum headphones have the HDB 630 to compete with. There will be a deeper comparison soon, but for now I can say that the Momentum 5’s bass is still very satisfying. It works for both bass heads and those who just like to hear a clean low frequency experience. The tone is thick without showing bloat or an overly boomy texture.

It all comes together in the sub-bass, which is very defined in the Momentum 5, which adds thunder to a very engaging sound signature. A rich bloom that expands further with EQ, or by simply activating the bass boost in the app. This adds more texture and body to the sub-bass, all while maintaining a balanced punch and impact that matches the quality and detail of the Momentum 5’s bass timbre.

Mids

While it’s clear that this is still a Bluetooth headphone when testing the mids, the frequencies still contain tonal realism and clear detail that help elevate the sound of the Momentum 5. There’s a surprising amount of transparency in certain parts of the midrange. The orchestral strings feel physically present, and their tone is clearly defined in the mix. Complex arrangements still involve some sharpness, but some artifacts still cut through effectively for controlled response. Many instruments have smooth versions, so the notes don’t really have a pretension, but they are still fairly clear. Smaller sound clusters help the Momentum 5 appear clearer, with more defined plucks, hits, and vocal clarity.

They are high

The highs are very similar to the mids in the sense that they sound clear and defined while still showing a balanced arrangement, except that the treble gets a bit more punchy. The bells and cymbals have a big punch to them, and they ring smoothly without causing a harsh feeling. It matches the realism of the Momentum 5’s sound profile, but the highs have more bite to them in a way that sounds natural and resolving. The treble is well-raised, and the roll-off is not too complicated for the tails to be noticeably muted.

Summary

The Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless feels like a confident step for the series. It maintains the comfort, premium design, and music sound that made previous Momentum headphones stand out, while improving key areas like ANC, app control, touch response, and wireless performance.

Its sound is still the main reason to consider it. The bass is full and clean, the mids have good presence, and the highs add clarity without being aggressive. Combined with its wide presentation and long, consistent battery life, the Momentum 5 is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a premium Bluetooth headphone with solid everyday features and much clearer sound than most mainstream alternatives.

The Sennheiser Momentum 5 is available at Audio46.

Sennheiser’s Momentum series has been a trusted name in the wireless headphone space, offering a balance of everyday convenience and solid audio performance.
