In this short tutorial, we show you how to draw and draw in the Apple Notes app on your Mac running macOS 27 Golden Gate, without relying on an iPhone, iPad, or non-touchscreen devices.<\/p>\n The amazing progress feature allowed Mac users to draw in the Notes app by opening a virtual drawing board on their iPhone or iPad. However, it relies on the user having at least one iOS device connected to the same Apple Account as their Mac. Second, the temporary whiteboard on the iPhone and iPad is good for casual use, but not good for long drawing or periods that require breaks.<\/p>\n macOS 27 fixes all that by adding a native drawing tool to the Notes app.<\/p>\n While it seems like an innocuous feature, this also hints at an upcoming MacBook (possibly called the MacBook Ultra) with a touchscreen (fingers crossed until late 2026 or early 2027).<\/p>\n 1)<\/strong> Update your Mac to macOS 27 by enabling beta updates in System Settings > General > Software Update or by using a bootable USB installer. You can also install macOS Golden Gate on a second part of the same Mac.<\/p>\n 2)<\/strong> Open the Notes app<\/strong> and create a new note or enter an existing one. You can also work on a note that already has standard typed text.<\/p>\n 3)<\/strong> Click on Markup icon<\/strong>as shown in the screenshot below.<\/p>\n You have the following tools at your disposal. If you’ve used Markup on the iPhone, it will feel right at home.<\/p>\n Tool of choice:<\/strong> It allows you to select your drawing and resize it, move it, etc.<\/p>\n Drawing tools:<\/strong> You can use pen, Monoline, Marker, Pencil, Crayon, Fountain Pen, Reed, and Watercolor tools. After selecting one, don’t forget to continue selecting the style of that tool (such as the thickness of the brush). There is also an Eraser option to remove mistakes and fix them.<\/p>\n Color picker:<\/strong> Click the small dot to select a different color. You can also change the color afterwards by using the selection tool to select an existing drawing, then change its color.<\/p>\n Conditions:<\/strong> Click the square icon and choose from line, arrow, square, square with rounded corners, circle, speech box, star, and hexagon.<\/p>\n Text:<\/strong> Click the A icon to add text.<\/p>\n Signature:<\/strong> Add an existing signature or create a new one and add it.<\/p>\n When you’re done drawing, click the Markup icon again to exit drawing mode.<\/p>\n Of course, like all other notes, they also sync with iCloud and appear on your other devices. And you can edit a drawing started on your Mac on your iPhone or iPad.<\/p>\n One weird thing I’ve noticed is that if you use the tool for a long time without a break (like dragging the pen tool around for a while without lifting your finger from the trackpad), the entire drawing for that session disappears. Sometimes, you make another small drawing and press Command<\/kbd> + Z<\/kbd> seems to bring back the missing painting. Sometimes, this strategy doesn’t work.
