Wings BodyFit is now available in the UK, a month after its US launch put a new scale on the radar. The pitch is simple enough: a \u00a3229.95 smart scale with a retractable handle, a 6-point body composition analysis and a strong focus on tracking fat loss without losing muscle.<\/p>\n

When we covered BodyFit back in early June, the interesting thing was that it wasn’t just another connected scale on the market. It was how Winnings took one of the most useful ideas from its high-end Body Scan line and pushed it into a more exercise-oriented product.<\/p>\n

The handle is the point<\/h2>\n

Many smart scales still suffer from the same problem. You stand over them, they send a signal through the lower body and the software calculates what is happening elsewhere. That can be useful for trends, but it’s still a subtle way of looking at body composition.<\/p>\n

BodyFit does things differently because of the retractable handle. Hold it while weighing and the scale can send a signal through the upper and lower body, rather than relying heavily on foot-to-foot readings. That allows it to divide the results into six parts, which include the arms, legs and trunk.<\/p>\n

That’s the feature Wings is leaning on for the UK launch. The company says the scan is three times faster than most smart part analysis measurements, while still delivering data that often requires more specialist equipment. <\/p>\n

Yeah, we wouldn’t put it there with DEXA. But home scales still live in the real world of hydration, time and user consistency. As a daily trend tool, this is a very interesting setup with basic weight and body fat readings.<\/p>\n

GLP-1 angle<\/h2>\n

Time is not by mistake. With GLP-1 weight loss drugs now becoming a much bigger part of the conversation, people are paying more attention to what they are losing, not just how much. Rapid weight loss may look good on a graph, but the more important question is whether that loss is fat loss or whether the body weight is slipping.<\/p>\n

This is where BodyFit has a very obvious role. Wings puts it as a way to see if fat loss occurs while muscle is protected. The app shows an animated body scan of each area and breaks down the muscle-to-fat balance across the body.<\/p>\n

This will not replace a clinical examination for people who need medical precision. But for someone who is training, dieting or using GLP-1 medications, it can provide a clearer home signal than regular weight tracking. <\/p>\n

More training, less spreadsheet work<\/h2>\n

Wings is also pushing BodyFit as a training product, not just a measurement tool. The scale works with the Wings app to track calorie balance and generate habit-based recommendations for weight loss. <\/p>\n

That sounds helpful, as long as the advice remains firm and not overwhelming. The best version of this product will be the one that recognizes the direction of travel and moves users accordingly. Gaining muscle in your legs but losing too much weight in your arms? That is happening. Losing weight but seeing a tendency to lose muscle mass in several areas? That also happens. A typical motivational interview won’t be as helpful.<\/p>\n

Winnings says BodyFit uses Bioelectrical Impedance Spectroscopy with 13 frequencies up to 800 kHz. It also states that the technology is validated against DEXA, with up to 99% correlation of fat mass and up to 98% of muscle mass. Those are big claims, and the usual caveat applies. Correlation in validation testing does not mean that all home readings will be correct. However, the multi-frequency BIS with the handle puts this above smart scales that are more predictive of the feet.<\/p>\n

A very focused scale for Wings<\/h2>\n

BodyFit now sits in an interesting position in the Wings range. It doesn’t try to be the complete private health channel that Body Scan aims to be. So it takes the middle ground.<\/p>\n

That makes the UK price of \u00a3229.95 easy to understand. It’s still a premium scale, but nowhere near as expensive as Wings’ top models. If you are a person trying to understand the difference between weight loss and body weight gain, this scale may be of interest. Check it out on the Wings website.<\/p>\n
